ARTS 101: Idea and Form
ARTS 101 explores concepts of making art in both practice and in theory. Driven by foundational theoretical texts that have influenced twentieth-century art and culture, the course explores art as content and meaning, and art’s relationship to form, everyday life, and visual culture.
Required Textbook:
- Harrison and Wood, Art in Theory 1900–2000: An Anthology of Changing Ideas, 2nd edition (2002), ISBN: 978-0631227083
Additional Required Materials:
- two Canson Pure White (or an equivalent) 16×20” art boards
- a variety of found/recycled items for creating two collages (Learn more)
- access to a digital camera, smart phone, or scanner for photographing your assignments so you can upload them
