You want a degree to advance your career, but you need to complete your general education courses before you can apply for most online degree programs. We understand. In appreciation of the sacrifices you and your family make in service to our country, we created this unique program for you, our military service members and veterans, to help you get started on your path toward a college degree.
UNC Core, a program administered by UNC-Chapel Hill’s Friday Center for Continuing Education, makes it easy for active duty service members and veterans to earn core credits any time, any place with two options:
- UNC Core Certificate: You will complete nine courses from a distance for academic credit, earning a total of 27 to 28 academic credit hours in key subject areas. All courses are taken and a certificate is awarded through UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Individual Courses: You will take individual courses from a distance for academic credit through seven participating University of North Carolina universities.
With both options, you can fulfill most general education requirements for entry into a degree completion program.
Get started now! Work with an academic advisor or your base education officer to choose the correct option for you. Be sure to confirm with the Office of Admissions at the college or university where you will complete your degree that the courses you have chosen will transfer.
Thank you for your service.
